10,000 Buddhas Monastery lies away from the glitzy urban center of Hong Kong in the New Territories. If your looking for a good workout and some sights that are off the beaten path I would highly suggest a day trip there.

It's a very, very long climb up especially with 500 life size Lohan (and the occasional monkey) watching you sweat and wheeze. Bring plenty of water, a comfortable pair of shoes, and a lot of bug repellent.
1) This guy was pretty shocked I made it all the way up 2) Got Buddha? 3) This guy had a frog/lizard pet

This one had hair!

Bumped into an old friend...Lohan #378

Here we are in the temple. There are actually closer to 15,000 little Buddha statues lining the walls from floor to ceiling. Each and every one of them is unique.

Now for some cliche' photoblog DOF shots. Buddhas to the right...

Buddhas to the left...

Inside a glass box sits Rev. Yeut Kai, founder of the Monastery. This is the only item in the complex that is NOT a statue. This the actual incorruptible body of the late monk, completely incase in gold leaf. When Yeut Kai died in 1965 he asked that his body be buried inside a wooden box in the seated position for 8 months. When he was finally dug up, his followers found that his body was completely preserved.
Famous 9 story pagoda in the center of the complex

This statue looks pretty handy
Bath time! On the way down I caught this Lohan getting a quick rinse.

This is beautiful and amazing! I've never heard of this place before now.
That close up photo of the hands really grossed me out!
Yeah, I'm not quite sure why the hands are so creepy, but they are. This is pretty fantastic!
those are something that we never see over here. Very colorful and pretty.
These photos are amazing. It's my dream to take trips around the world (a la Anthony Bourdain) and chronicle them with photos like this! I'd totally take the 5000000 steps up the mountain to see it!
ONE millon dollars! I love it... your humor made this that much better... and just the pictures are pretty good without it.
Did you go on ANOTHER trip? or are these ones you have been saving since the last trip?
I loved the humor you used to showcase these!!! Great photos!!!
Really cool! I would be in heaven there and it looks like I have some serious collecting to do if I want to beat that!
Amazing! Where in the N.T. is this monastery?
I've only been to the big bronze Buddha on Lantau Island.
Very cool!
And I just love that the woman is hosing down the statue. It is kind of slapstick-y, like a squirting flower on a lapel or something. "Hey Buddha! Smell the flower!" Buddha goes to smell and then squirt!
This is so neat! I love the temple full of little Buddha statues. I would have been awe stricken!
Wooooooooooooow. Awesome.
