A couple of months ago we took a weekend road trip out Dubuque, Iowa and Gelena, Illinois to close off the summer.

Elves get special treatment out in Iowa.
On the way to the Mississippi, Mia had to make a pit stop....
What are you looking at?
On the shores of the great Mississippi
We found a garter snake on the staircase leading down to the river.
I do a homage to the Steve Irwin. "Ain't she a beauty!"
Everyone else ran...

Have a nice week! :)
Looks like a fun trip. I dig the 2nd shot quite a bit.
I have been to Dubuque many times, but I didn't know about the elevator. That will DEFINITELY be on our list for next spring/summer.
My oldest monster would have been fighting you for a chance to pick that snake up! lol I bet your hands didn't smell to wonderful afterwards though! lol
So you guys did this roadtrip instead of coming up this way?! Maybe next year? Keep it in mind.
I really need a road trip. Gah.
@Femme003 - Whoa! I didn't even notice that.
@angi1972 - Didn't notice. I didn't think snakes gave off any odor....I caught a toad when I was in Puerto Rico that then proceeded to pee all over my hand, I guess I haven't learned my lesson :)
Ha...I would be running too...
wonderful photos! looks like a fun trip. i haven't been on a road trip in a very long time...wait, i remember why, i hate to drive
nice photos and I like the elf exit, too
Mia is like can't a dog have alittle privacy!
Nice! Galena's very beautiful in the Fall, I've been there a few times. Great pix all around, esp. the snake one because I like snakes ;)
awesome photos!
I have that exact same photo of the black angus cows. And I've taken it about four times. Was that observation tower right next to there open yet? I assume it was still closed because I didn't see any photos from the top of it.
@Viewtiful_Justin - Yup its still closed. Doesn't look like it's going to be repaired anytime soon. Shame really, it looks to be a really nice view from there.
