10,000 Buddhas Monastery lies away from the glitzy urban center of Hong Kong in the New Territories. If your looking for a good workout and some sights that are off the beaten path I would highly suggest a day trip there.

It's a very, very long climb up especially with 500 life size Lohan (and the occasional monkey) watching you sweat and wheeze. Bring plenty of water, a comfortable pair of shoes, and a lot of bug repellent.
1) This guy was pretty shocked I made it all the way up 2) Got Buddha? 3) This guy had a frog/lizard pet

This one had hair!

Bumped into an old friend...Lohan #378

Here we are in the temple. There are actually closer to 15,000 little Buddha statues lining the walls from floor to ceiling. Each and every one of them is unique.

Now for some cliche' photoblog DOF shots. Buddhas to the right...

Buddhas to the left...

Inside a glass box sits Rev. Yeut Kai, founder of the Monastery. This is the only item in the complex that is NOT a statue. This the actual incorruptible body of the late monk, completely incase in gold leaf. When Yeut Kai died in 1965 he asked that his body be buried inside a wooden box in the seated position for 8 months. When he was finally dug up, his followers found that his body was completely preserved.

Bath time! On the way down I caught this Lohan getting a quick rinse.
